Today, as I had purchased a 2-day ticket for the bus, I decided that, as I didn’t feel as if I’d used it enough the first day, to go on a full circuit round and end up close to the bridge that goes over to Margaret Island – you can also get off at the Margaret Island stop when you are on the riverboat. The excursion was really enjoyable, and I did get a better look at one or two places that I hadn’t seen as well when on foot. It was particularly hot this day, too, and I was glad of the shade from the trees once I arrived on Margaret Island. The Island is a bit like the Central Park of Budapest with its leafy parkland. The park also houses a water tower, the ruins of an old convent, a musical fountain, a small zoo, and a Japanese garden. There is a lido and some great sporting facilities, too. The small island is named after the daughter of a 13th-century king and was formed when a split of silt bubbled up many years ago in the middle of the river.
